The traditional pattern was designed by Unn Søiland Dale in 1953 while she was working on creating sweaters for the ski film "Troll i Ord". War hero and skier Marius Eriksen plays a handsome ski instructor in the film, and the Marius sweater was an immediate success. The sweater originates from the Setesdal pattern and is today considered Norway's national sweater.
